Start your New Year as you mean to go on: 5 Changes to make now

With the novelty Christmas jumper packed away for another year, arguing over the best Christmas film and the overindulging of food and drink, a distant memory. The beginning of the new year is a wonderful time to commit to changing your life. What would you look to do differently or achieve in 2022? Remember – Your future is created by what you do TODAY, not tomorrow.

Use the five strategies below and make 2022 your year.

 1. Pay special attention to your health.

After the past 18 months, it’s been a rough ride and the temptation to have that extra comfort food and drink might have gone from a one-off treat to a bad habit. 2022 is the year to revitalise the system by eating healthily, exercising daily, and ensuring proper sleep routines. Take care of your appearance, including your teeth, hair and skin. The better you feel about yourself, the more you will boost your self-esteem.

Be excited about the changes you are making to your body and general health.

2. Set priorities and keep them straight.

Example priorities might include family, work and yourself. If so, take each of them into account in making decisions. The key is to understand and be aware of your priorities.

Start the year by acting in a way that shows your priorities. Keep focused on what’s most important to you throughout the year. Once you align your goals and targets to your priorities, you will become more passionate and focused on what you are aiming for in life. Whether it’s what you are doing at home, in the workplace, or focusing on yourself.

3. Read more

Although you may like other activities, reading is a fun activity that expands your mind. It’s estimated on average most adults read less than 6 books a year. In comparison, Bill Gates claims to read at least one book a week, with Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, claiming in his teens we would read one or two books a day. Invest in reading books on topics you like or would like to learn more about.

Even if you don’t have the time to read a physical copy, try listening to audiobooks whilst commuting, doing chores or walking the dog. Expanding your intellectual horizon will make you a more interesting person and will enable you to talk to others on many topics.

 4. Try something new and do something you have never done before.

Nothing can get you more focused and motivated than stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new. As the proverb goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained – you can’t expect to achieve anything if you take no risks. Maybe you will try something you have always been curious about and wanted to explore. Have you wanted to do it for years but keep saying maybe next week, month …. year?

 5. Put your best foot forward.

If you feel you’ve reached your peak and are bored with your current work, spice it up. But remember to stick to the facts. Strive to improve your performance in your work life. Tackle that undesirable task you’ve been putting off that nobody wants to do, or even simply expand on your daily efforts. Document your efforts, identify gaps in the market and when the opportunity arises, be confident and let everyone know you’re the best person for the job.

Do everything in your power to live your best life starting in 2022. Soon you will realise that you feel more active, more interested and more passionate in all aspects of your life.

Happy New Year! Let’s make 2022 YOUR year.
